This semester is a mix of discussing arcane technical details about how health care (sometimes) works and (frequently) does not work. We also explore the particular US mythologies and beliefs that got us where we are. In order to flesh out those understandings and to practice using social science skills of observation, description, analysis, you will select and watch 1 movie OR 2-3 episodes of a show and write a 3-page paper that addresses the following questions:
- What are the health care coverage, quality, or equity issue depicted in your selected movie/show?
- Based on our discussions this semester:
- Do you think the movie/show makes a meaningful popular culture contribution to the conversation on health care reform in our country?
- What does the show get right about the US health care system?
- What does it get wrong?
- Is there anything you would change about how the health care system is depicted? Why?
