Protein is one of the most important aspects of food that is needed for all different types of people. The protein intake is calculated differently depending on the person. For children, then need protein for growth and development. According to PubMed Central “Protein is a crucial macronutrient for children’s growth, tissue repair, and overall development, forming muscles, enzymes, hormones, and antibodies.” (Zihao Wei, 2024) Protein is what builds muscles and has different hormones that are needed for overall growth. Pregnant Women should be digesting more protein for the growth of their fetuses because the baby takes the mothers proteins for growth and development; therefore, the mother needs to consume more proteins then she normally would. Including, the trimester of the fetus determines how much more proteins the mother needs to consume. i.e wile the baby grows the mother needs to consume more protein. “First trimester of pregnancy is estimated at 46 g/day and 71 g/day during the second and third trimesters” (Zihao Wei, 2024) Lastly when a person is ill there body feeds off of the proteins that are in the body and you could be deficient in protein. Therefore, when you are ill you also need to consume more protein to keep up muscle and bone strength. You may potentially get weak and unable to do regular activities because of the lack of protein in your body which is a cause for malnourishment. In addition, your body is working hard to fight against illnesses therefore you need to fuel your body to get the proteins necessary to continue fighting. You can get protein from all different types of sources including animal sources like meat, poultry, eggs, yogurts, milks, and cheese or from plant based proteins including soy, beans, potato’s, and oats. All in all your body needs proteins no matter what but the intake of proteins depends on each individuals circumstance.
