- Start with personal information ( BMI, age, weight, etc ). This should include things relevant to diet/nutrition
- Inclusion of your theoretical DRI
- Analysis of DRI intake ( For three days ). This should include proteins, carbs, etc
- Develop a Sample Menu/Meal Plan: This should be a menu of improved intake, including nutrients and specific foods for improvement. Discuss how this proposed meal plan will improve your nutrition/diet.
- Overall DRI breakdown for three days
- Actual vs Theoretical DRI Explanation
- A Report should be submitted in addition to a chart included in the report.
- There should be no grammatical errors
- Headers should be included for each section
- Follow these directions for carrying out your diet analysis.
There are two goals for this project: 1.) learn the analysis process, and 2.) gain some personal insight about yourself and your food intake. So, as usual, the more foods listed in your diet analysis information the better in terms of drawing conclusions. DO NOT TURN IN YOUR FOOD INTAKE LISTS. Mainly, we just want your theoretical DRI and your calculated DRI vs your intake and the +/-% of the diet you eat. Two example analyses are given for you to see. Then write a 3-meal, 1-day proposed diet to improve your intakes. It’s always interesting, especially if you are involved in some active “health/exercise” program. So, do the “process” but then personalize your results – you will gain benefit from that activity.
Here’s all you really need to formulate in your report: a. Your THEORETICAL DRI calculated by the program from your gender, weight, age etc. b. Your ACTUAL DRI calculated from the food intake you entered c. A comparison ACTUAL/THEORETICAL giving you insight – too high? too low? just right? d. A proposed, 3-meal diet to “improve” your intake-covering one day. Offer general comments on different nutrients. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack3.) That’s all there is to it! A 3 day average DRI is best but not all programs offer that. Don’t worry. Use one day.
