Musical Performance Report
Assignment Instructions
Introduction
For this assignment, you will watch a recording of a live performance of a musical, then write a report in which you outline details of the play you choose to watch, along with your response to the play.
The Assignment
Step 1: Log in to Digital Theatre Plus (opens in a new window) using the following credentials:
username: dra111
password: island@5960
Step 2: search in DT+ for a musical that you would like to watch. The easiest way to browse their selection (which is considerable) is to do the following:
· scroll to the bottom of the main page
· click on Table of Contents
· click on Productions
· you will notice that some productions are Blocked; this is due to mature language and/or content.
· some productions are audio only; for this assignment, you need to watch a full performance, one that includes audio and video.
· you are welcome to narrow your search if you are more interested in watching a particular genre or style; you can do so by selecting the genre/style in the left-hand menu on DT+ website.
Step 3: watch your chosen play. Most plays are 1.5-2 hours long, so make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. It may be helpful to preview the assignment and take notes on what you will need to include in your Performance Report.

Introduction
There are rich theatre traditions all over the world: throughout Asia, Africa, and South America. For this discussion, seek out information on one such theatre tradition (
NOT from the US or Europe
), then learn from your classmates about other theatre traditions.
The Assignment
· Research a style of theatre from a part of the world other than the United States or Europe.
· In 150 words or more, give a short synopsis/description of the style of theatre you chose to research. Make sure to include the name of the tradition, where it originated and/or is traditionally performed, and what unique features it includes.

Theatre is universal. There is evidence of performative forms of storytelling all over the world and throughout history. For this assignment, you will choose two different theatre traditions to learn about and report on, both from outside the Western part of the world.
The Assignment
For this assignment, complete the following Research Activity:

· Research the cultural context of these traditions using at least
two different websites which provide written, visual, and audio resources and which show the practice in action.
· open the attached document entitled “Researching World Theatre Traditions”
· complete the attached table with the appropriate information
· in the same document, answer the following questions (in paragraph form), comparing and contrasting the contexts of the two traditions:
· What do these traditions have in common with each other? What are some differences?
· How are they similar to American theatre today? How are they different.
