You will use Walmart for this paper to primarily analyze the financial health of the
company.
I am giving you the freedom to choose your own company for this analysis.
I will choose the groups, and I will notify the students to which group they belong.
Use references from reputable and reliable sources to discuss the required attributes listed
below in the outline. Examples of such references include the company’s annual reports,
Morning Star, Moody’s Investor Services, Inc., Standard & Poor’s Rating Services, Fitch
Ratings, etc.
The outline for the paper is as follows:

• Company Background (15 points)

· Briefly explain the history/origin of the company.

• Debt (15 points)

· Describe the current liabilities and the total amount.

· Describe the short-term liabilities and the total amount.

· Describe the accrued liabilities and the total amount.

· Describe the long-term liabilities and the total amount.
▪ List the interest rates of the long-term liabilities.
▪ List the company’s rating from Moody’s Investor Services, Inc.,
Standard & Poor’s Rating Service, and/or Fitch Ratings

• Equity (15 points)

· Analyze the company’s stock.
▪ Discuss the company’s common stock, preferred stock, dividends, and
earnings per share.
▪ Discuss the required rate of return by investors per the dividend
growth model (DGM) and the capital asset pricing model (CAPM).

• Competition (15 points)

· Describe a competitor of your chosen company.

· Compare and contrast the competitor with your company by comparing:
▪ Products/services offered
▪ Revenue
▪ Current liabilities, short-term liabilities, accrued liabilities, and long-
term liabilities
▪ Stock prices, preferred stock, and dividends

• Ratios (15 points)

· Describe the total assets and the total amount.

· List the current debt percentage and the current equity percentage.

· Describe the debt-to-equity ratio and list the current percentage for your
company.

· Describe the return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) and list the
current ratios for your company.

· Describe the current ratio, list the current ratio for your company, and
analyze the current ratio using previous years’ ratios.

· Describe the quick ratio and list the ratio for your company.

· List the beta coefficient for your company, the competitor, and S&P 500, and
describe what these numbers mean.


Risks (5 points)

· Identify and discuss potential risks that the company faces

• Conclusion: Conclude your analysis. (5 points)

· Summarize the results

• References: Use proper references in APA style. Include at least six references from
reputable and reliable sources. (5 points)

• Format: The format of the paper is consistent with APA style. Proper spelling,
grammar, font, and font size are utilized. No graphs or pictures. (5 points)

• Data: Any data that you use for your calculations needs to be submitted in an Excel
spreadsheet when the paper is submitted. (5 points)

Format: Address the points above in essay format. Use proper Headings for each section
listed. You may use sub-headings if needed. Your assignment should be 6-8 pages, double-
spaced. Use proper grammar and spell check your paper. Use Times New Roman 12-point
font, 1-inch margins all around the document. Plagiarism is against university policy; do not
copy and paste from sources without giving the author credit. Do not use graphs and
pictures. Submit through Canvas as a Word document.
