Ben and Jerry’s is known for its ice cream. The company has a very outspoken and robust program. It believes everyone should be treated equally regardless of race, religion, age, sexual orientation and, etc. Ben and Jerry consider themselves a progressive company and want injustices eliminated. This stance is integrated into its daily business operations. They aspire to continue building a culture that makes diversity a strength and not a weakness. An equity team was formed to help with this goal.

The climate for DEI has changed since January 2025. Many companies have ended this program, including Target. Target pulled back its business away from many minority-owned businesses. However, they are committed to belonging and inclusion. The company prohibits discrimination in its employment hiring, promotion, and advancement. All federal, state, or local fair employment laws will be followed.

I chose Proctor and Gamble to highlight for their initiatives in diversity and inclusion. They are a good example of company that walks the talk. Proctor and Gamble has a formal commitment to equality and inclusion along with their notable initiatives. In their policies and practices, they discuss how they value diversity and an inclusive work environment. They believe that their efforts will contribute to a diverse set of consumers .  (Procter & Gamble, n.d) Compared to Unilever, one of their competitors, they both value diversity and inclusion. However, P&G mainly advocates for diversity in the US. They are more transparent about the breakdown of how diverse their organization is . They have strong employee resource groups for women, LGBTQ, etc. for their employees to be involved in. They also support having diverse suppliers. Unilever is committed to diversity on a global scale that support long-term change. I think both companies walk the talk. For instance, P&G shows that they are committed to diversity initiatives because they are still producing initiatives to level the playing field. For instance, they launched a two-day  “Women in STEM” event that allowed the young girls to explore the history of women in P&G and the science. (Proctor and Gamble, 2025) I think this is interesting because this company is US based and we have seen multiple companies roll back DEI initiatives this year. Both companies have formally stated the importance of diversity and inclusion in their workspaces. They both are committed to removing barriers and stereotypes from their organizations. P&G states that they are committed to equal opportunities in employment, they aim to treat their applicants fairly and never engage in unlawful discrimination regardless of any legally protected factors.  While Unilever does not explicitly state their commitment to equal employment practices they maintain that they are committed to equality via employees, leadership, suppliers and products. Although both are committed to diversity and inclusion in their organizations, they are demonstrated differently. P&G comes out diverse initiatives, support groups, and more efforts while Unilever provides employees with two separate trainings they believe will combat stereotypes and bring groups together. Overall, both organizations are committed to diversity and inclusion within their organizations.

Sincerely,
