Discussion: Gathering Information

Review the

Discussion Requirements

for this course before responding to the prompt below.

Part I:
Counselors start the therapeutic process by gathering information from and about the client. The information gathered should aid the counselor in developing a treatment plan for their client’s journey to well-being. The intake session should consist of gathering information from the client and communicating with the client what the therapeutic relationship should be like.

Read the chapters and watch the following videos and discuss the prompts:

Part II:
There is a fine line between being yourself and being a counselor/professional in the therapeutic relationship and process. We need to understand ourselves through being self-aware and mindful of our emotions and feelings towards the client, and the process. This understanding helps counselors be more effective and efficient and do “No Harm towards the Client.”
