In Units I, II, and III, you learned about the history of computers, application and system software, blockchain, cryptocurrency, computer ethics, and explored two Microsoft Office applications, Word and Excel. 

In this assignment you will demonstrate what you have learned in these three units. This assignment will have five parts. 

Using Microsoft Word, address the prompts in each part of the assignment. Label each section as Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, and Part 5. 

Part 1Title: Lab Response

Discuss one feature of MS Word and one feature of MS Excel that you found challenging within the lab and why. Examples are WordArt, inserting shapes, adding borders, cell styles, etc. This response should be at least one paragraph in length.

Part 2Title: History of Computers

Identify and discuss a key milestone in the history of computers that interests you and why. This section should be at least one paragraph.

Part 3Title: System Software vs. Application Software

In your words, explain the difference between application software and system software as if to another coworker who has limited technical knowledge. Use examples to support your rationalization. This section should be at least two paragraphs.

Part 4Title: Blockchain and Cryptocurrency

In a minimum of one paragraph each:

  1. Conduct some research on the internet and discuss one underlying technology of cryptocurrencies like blockchain, cryptography, distributed ledger technology (DLT), or peer-to-peer networking.
  2. Conduct some research on the internet and discuss how blockchain is revolutionizing an industry of your choice, such as finance and banking, supply chain management, energy, healthcare, education, and others.

Part 5Title: Data Security

In a minimum of one paragraph:

  1. Conduct research on the internet about copyrights and intellectual property. In your words explain what is meant by ‘copyright’ and ‘intellectual property’. Use examples to support your ideas.
  2. Then, discuss if you think it is ethical to use software or intellectual property without paying for it? Why, or why not?

All five parts of your paper should be submitted in one Microsoft Word document. The total length for this assignment should be at least two pages in length, not counting the title or reference pages. Please use headings and labels to identify the different parts and sections of the assignment. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. You are required to use at least two outside sources for this assignment, one of which may be the textbook. Please note that no abstract is needed.
