question

see doc below

-You need to provide a short a succinct answer to each of my questions. Be brief and accurate using ~3-4 sentences for each answer, although longer is fine if needed. Number each of your answers to match my numbered questions; week 1 question 1 is 1.1, week 1 question 2 is 1.2, etc

-Choose one of my questions to write a follow-up question to and include your question at the bottom of this same post

Q1.1 – Calculate the change in standard Gibbs energy at equilibrium for the reaction A –>B in which [A] = 5 mM and [B] = 25 mM and the temperature for the reaction is 37ºC.

Use the change in standard Gibbs energy you determined for the reaction A –>B, but now calculate the actual change in Gibbs energy at 37ºC when the reaction is at steady state and [A] = 0.1M and [B] = 250 microM.

Is the reaction more favorable at equilibrium or at steady state? Explain.

Review of Enzyme Structure and Function

Q1.2 – Describe the three features that facilitate enzyme catalytic activity.

What is the function of an enzyme active site with regard to providing an optimal chemical environment and how to coenzymes facilitate this?

Which of these parameters are affected by the catalytic activity of enzymes and how are they altered? a) ground state energy of reactants, b) ground state energy of products, c) change in Gibbs energy of the reaction, d) activation energy of a reaction, e) the energy needed to reach the transition state, f) the equilibrium constant of a reaction, g) the rate of a catalyzed reaction?

Plants Harvest Energy from the Sun

Q1.3 – What is the function of each of the three major protein complexes in the photosynthetic electron transport system; PSII, Cyt b6f, PSI?

Which chloroplast compartment has the highest [H+] and what biochemical process occurs when these protons translocate across the thylakoid membrane in response to a high concentration gradient?

What metabolites provide the energy for carbon fixation in the chloroplast stroma and what is the triose phosphate generated by this process?
