It is important for teachers to develop collaborative skills to continue to grow as educators.
What are professional learning communities? Define their role in facilitating growth among
educators.
I think that it is very important to develop collaborative skills in order for educators to grow.
Professional Learning Communities are communities that are a group of educators that gather
together to meet and discuss their expertise, go over data, and they work together to improve
ways of teaching. The group of teachers also help each other evaluate outcomes for students.
They discuss different ways to implement these procedures and discuss what their students are
struggling with and things that are working.
In a PLC that I was in we discussed Benchmark and what was effective and not. We realized that
everyone loved the phonics portion, but we were struggling with writing and reading. The
reason that we were struggling was because reading and writing did not match up with each
other, and we all agreed that it would be easier. We also figured that the writing curriculum was
a bit advanced for the students that we taught.
