Discussion 1: Weeks 1-3
Discussion 1 is based on content from Module 1 (Weeks 1-3) and contains 5 questions.
Part A, B, and C are mandatory, and Part B requires citations (total of 1 citation). You should also respond to two classmate’s posts. In order to ensure you receive the grade you have earned, remember to number your responses so it is clear to me which question you are answering. Part A
You were assigned three “Personal Essays From Various Feminist Scholars” to read. Choose
one and answer the following:
1. Summarize 2-3 main points the author made. Make sure to reference which article you are going to write about (
150 words minimum, 2 points)
2. Describe your reaction to these points. What areas, if any, resonated with you? What areas, if any, did not sit right with you? Why? Did this have any impact on the way you think about feminism? (

Part B
3. You learned about a lot of different concepts and perspectives in Module #1. Select one concept or perspective covered and expand on it in some way that was not covered in the course content. For example, you may have wanted to learn more about Latina/Chicana feminisms. You can take this opportunity to perform your own research and report back on what you find. (
150 words minimum; 1 in-text citation and full reference required; must be from outside course content, 2 points)
Part C (250 words minimum for Part C, 2 points)
4. Choose someone in your life and ask them their perspectives on feminism. You will ask the following questions and type up their responses here: Are you a feminist? Why or why not? What does feminism mean to you? In what ways, if any, do you think feminism has changed over time? How do others around you view feminism? Please feel free to add additional questions to this list. Don’t forget to mention if they are a family member of yours or a friend (only if you want to, you can include their age, race, and other demographic details but please do
not include their name).
5. Reflect on their answers: What is your reaction to their response? Were you surprised? Pleased? Upset? Do their responses reflect any definitions of feminism or feminist viewpoints we’ve looked at so far in this class? Explain.
