This is a 4 page paper.  College level American History. Double spaced times new roman . It needs to be well cited and have a separate work cited  page. Page numbers must appear in the citation.Cite the sources after the relevant sentence(s), cite, for example.:

-A People and a Nation, edition, and page # (e. g. Kamensky, 11th ed., p #)

-A Biography of America, episode # (Bio of America, episode #)

must use these 2 sources for 80% of the citations

Essay Question (See Specific Directions Below)

Read the following passage from Jane Kamensky, et. al., A People and a Nation, Volume 1, 11thed.

[In 1681, English King Charles II granted the land between Maryland and New York to William Penn] as a personal proprietorship, one that earned profits for his descendants until the American Revolution. [Penn also saw the province] as a haven for persecuted coreligionists. In […] promotional tracts […] in German, French and Dutch, Penn offered fertile land to all comers …. He promised to tolerate all religions – although only Christian men could vote—and to establish a representative assembly. He also guaranteed such legal protections as the right to bail and trial by jury.… (Kamensky 11th ed., 66)

A pacifist with egalitarian principles, Penn attempted to treat Native Americans fairly. [He learned the local Native language, purchased land from them and] established strict regulations for trade and forbade the sale of alcohol to Native peoples. (Kamensky, 11th ed., 67)

Consider the history of the English colonies in mainland North America from 1607 to 1763.

1) To what degree were Penn’s actions in Pennsylvania typical of the attitudes and actions of English officials and colonists toward other peoples?

2) How successful were efforts to recruit diverse groups, live in harmony, and promote prosperity?

-Write an essay with a minimum of four complete double-spaced pages responding to these questions.

-Integrate at least four of the Terms as evidence into your essay (from Lectures 2-6).

-Compose an essay and organize it with an introduction, a main body, and a conclusion.

-Make an argument in your introduction.

For example:

-William Penn’s actions, including recruiting diverse groups, guaranteeing some forms of equality, and striving for peaceful relations with the Native peoples were typical of those by English officials and colonists during the period from 1607 to 1763. These actions were successful for a time in forging a prosperous and harmonious society.

– William Penn’s actions, including recruiting diverse groups, guaranteeing some forms of equality, and striving for peaceful relations with the Native peoples were extremely unusual for English officials and colonists during the period from 1607 to 1763. While these worked for a time in Pennsylvania to promote peace and harmony, elsewhere there were extensive examples of impoverishment and conflict.

– William Penn’s actions, including recruiting diverse groups, guaranteeing some forms of equality, and striving for peaceful relations with the Native peoples, while unusual, reflected some of the complex tapestry of actions and interactions by English officials and colonists during the period from 1607 to 1763. There were periods and places of quiescence, but also ongoing tensions and violent conflicts.

-Indicate how you will structure your essay in your introduction.

-Lay out historical evidence in support of your position, including at least four of the Terms.

-Summarize your views and evidence in your conclusion.

Good luck!

-The assigned sources should make up at least 80 percent of the citations

-The ONLY additional outside sources should be from scholarly peer-reviewed historical works from our libraries or reputable primary sources (that is, do not use random internet materials or summaries generated by AI)

The Terms are:********************( use  4 of these terms as evidence, make the term bold and capital letters in the essay
