THEORIES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL
DISORDERS
This week, you explore a variety of models that help you understand the etiologies of psychological
disorders as well as the potential avenues for treatment.
In this Assignment, you will select two of the models (behavioral, cognitive, humanistic, biological or
sociocultural) and assess the strengths and limitations that each framework offers for understanding
behavior.

Sociocultural
Explain why you selected these two models.
In your own words, briefly describe each of the two models of psychopathology on which
you would like to focus.
Briefly identify and provide examples of one benefit that each model contributes to our
understanding of psychopathological behavior.
Briefly identify and provide examples of one limitation of each model for understanding
psychopathological behavior.
Focusing on your selected disorder from your Week 1 Discussion post, explain how the
benefit you identified for each model would help you identify the development of
psychopathological behavior in that specific disorder. Use a specific example to support
each of your points.
To demonstrate what you learned this week, be sure to support your work by referring to
specific information from the learning resources. Cite and reference the sources you use.
