Scenario:

Daniel Thompson is a 58-year-old male with a small bowel obstruction. No allergies. Vital signs-Temp: 99.1°F, HR: 96 bpm, BP: 142/86, RR: 22, O2 Sat: 97% on RA, Pain: 7/10
· Daniel presents with abdominal distention, nausea, and vomiting. The provider has ordered a nasogastric tube for decompression. He appears anxious and is concerned that the procedure will be painful.
· You are assigned to care for Mr. Thompson and have been instructed to insert a nasogastric tube for gastric decompression. He is alert, anxious, and has never had an NG tube before. You are expected to insert the tube, confirm placement per facility policy, and begin suction.
· You will then perform maintenance and removal for your skill
