Module 5 Comprehension Small Task #3 Checklist
In this module, you will have 3 tasks: Complete
two IRIS professional development modules on comprehension and
complete a reflection.
To receive full credit for the IRIS modules, your certificates must include:
Pre-test and post test score on the certificate.
Post-test score must be higher than pre-test score.
Post-test score must be 80% or higher.
1. Complete the
Secondary Reading Instruction Part 1: Teaching Vocabulary and Comprehension in the Content Areas.
a. Click on the Professional Development Module Certificate and complete this information (see attached).

b. Complete the pre-test.
c. Follow the link to complete the module (approx. 1.5 hours in length).
d. Complete the post-test.
e. Create your certificate. YOU MUST INCLUDE pre-test and post-test scores on your certificate to receive full credit. Download the actual certificate (pdf).
f. Attach the certificate separately to the assignment folder.
2. Complete the IRIS Center’s
Secondary Reading Instruction Part 2: Deepening Middle School Content-Area Learning with Vocabulary & Comprehension Strategies.
a. Click on the Professional Development Module Certificate and complete this information.
b. Complete the pre-test.
c. Follow the link to complete the module (approx. 1.5 hours in length).
d. Complete the post-test.
e. Create your certificate. YOU MUST INCLUDE pre-test and post-test scores on your certificate to receive full credit. Download the actual certificate (pdf).
f. Attach the certificate separately to the assignment folder.
3. Based on your learning in the above two modules, write a 2-page reflection (double-spaced, 12-point font) that answers the following questions:
a. Explain 3 ways that content-area teachers can provide and support literacy instruction for students.
b. Reflect on your students that came to mind as you completed the module. Briefly describe the student(s), specific area of struggle related to comprehension, and what you can utilize from this module.
c. Attach to the assignment folder.
