Islam and Christianity have interacted for many years. They are two of the most prominent religions in the world and are probably the two that you are most familiar with. They both have their own holy books that they follow, religious leaders, and a single deity. This week we will be continuing our studies on both religions. Think about the comparisons you made last week.
Consider how Christianity’s and Islam’s histories have been presented. Is it possible to consider their primary sources to be “accurate?” Also think about the interrelation between these religions and their own personal governmental politics and ideas. This goes back to our previous investigations on how religion, politics, and society are connected and influence one another.
Fill out the HIPPO worksheet! Choose one of the primary sources from Reilly to analyze, either “Fulcher of Chartres, The First Crusade” or “Ibn al-Athir: A Muslim History of the First Crusade.” Read the short secondary information that comes before the primary reading first and then carefully read the primary sources themselves. You may use Reilly or Wiesner-Hanks to help you answer the questions, but 1) cite anything that is not your own idea and 2) you may not use the internet or any form of AI to assist you.
