Week 13: Discussion Question: Digestive System


Discussion Board Instructions and Rubric for MSN Online and Hybrid Courses

The purpose of the Weekly Discussions is to develop a scholarly and dynamic exchange between students, faculty, and other students in the course promoting an active and engaging online learning community. Your success, and the success of your classmates in a positive learning environment, are dependent on discussion participation and timely completion of assignments.

Use these guidelines and rubric for all discussion board postings. Each week begins on Monday at 12:01 AM/EST and ends on Sunday at 11:59 PM/EST. ***Initial postings cannot begin until Monday 12:01 AM/EST of each week. The instructor will delete any posts (initial postings and/or response) made prior to the start of each week (Monday at 12:01 AM/EST).


Tips for Posting

-All writing and references must follow current American Psychological Association (APA) standards
-Points will not be deducted for font, italicizing, and indentation in the discussion board
-There are no “make-ups” for not posting to the Weekly Discussions
-Avoid postings that are limited to ‘I agree’ or ‘great idea’, etc. If you agree (or disagree) with a posting, then say why you agree (or disagree) by supporting your statement with concepts from the readings or by bringing in a related example or experience
-Address the questions as much as possible
-Synthesize the readings into your own words (you may use quotes and paraphrasing from the articles as needed) to support your postings. Expand on your insights and reflect on the material. Be sure to follow APA standards
-Build on other responses to create threads
-Go back and look at the responses posted to your Initial Post. Your peers or the instructor may ask questions of you that you 
can answer as a Peer Response Post

-Bring in related prior knowledge (work experience, prior coursework, readings, etc.)
-Use proper etiquette (address your peer by name, use professional language, etc.)

Define and describe the disease (5 item criteria)

1. Discuss the epidemiological trends associated with the disease.

2. Identify and discuss the age related risk factors and vulnerable populations. 

3. Describe the clinical manifestations.

4. Describe how the disease is diagnosed.

5. Explain a treatment option for the selected diagnosis.

2 professional peer-reviewed scholarly journal reference relevant from the last 5 years properly cited in American Psychological Association (APA) format. The article provided in the course may not be used as the required reference. The course textbook and/or article may be used in addition to the 1 required journal reference.

References-Internet documents including Google references, blogs, Wikipedia, .com, or other non-scholarly documents should not be used for references. Creditable Internet websites include .org, .edu, .gov or Health On the Net (HON) approved sites. Scholarly professional online journals retrieved from the library using bibliographic databases or national professional organizations are acceptable. All articles must be within a five-year timeframe unless otherwise stated by the instructor or a classic/historical source as defined by APA. Citation of an article/source/reference implies that the student has personally retrieved and read the cited work. Complete citations within the body of the postings and the reference list according to APA format.

For example, a student is expected to spell words correctly, avoid using slang or text messaging language, punctuate and avoid syntax errors. Spelling, grammar, and organization should reflect scholarly writing. Focused on proper format for references and citations.
