Formative Assessment: Your Research Topic and Title
It is time to consider your research topic. In this formative assessment, you will provide a
self-analysis of your current thoughts of where your research is heading. Complete a table using
the following questions as your guide. Use APA formatting for your table, as you will need this
throughout your capstone process. You will use a narrative table format (see pages 223-224 in
APA 7th ed for examples.) Suggested headings: Questions – My Reflections
Questions:
1. What is a topic that is interesting to me?
2. What is the scope of my topic – broad or narrow? How will I make it researchable
and relevant?
3. What are some current research ideas on my topic, including citations?
4. Where can I search for potential data sets covering aspects of my topic?
5. Why is this topic so important to me?
6. What do I seek to add to the general knowledge base through my research?
