Survey-Based Data Analysis Project
HED 517
Assignment: Brief Literature Review for Survey-Based Data Analysis Project
Purpose of the Assignment
In HED 517, you will design a survey, deploy it, and analyze the resulting data. To develop
appropriate research questions and testable hypotheses, your survey must be grounded in existing research.
The purpose of this assignment is not to teach you how to write an extensive literature review. Instead, this brief review ensures that your survey and hypotheses are informed by prior evidence and aligned with public health or nursing practice.
Topic Selection
Your topic must be:
· Of
public health importance,
or
· Directly related to
nursing practice (for students in nursing)
Topics should be narrow enough to support clear research questions and measurable variables.
Assignment Description
You will write a
brief literature review that summarizes existing research related to your chosen topic. This literature review will directly support the development of:
· Your research question(s)
· Your hypothesis/hypotheses
· Your survey instrument
This assignment begins
at the start of the course and will inform later project components.
Requirements
Your literature review must meet the following criteria:
· Written
entirely in your own words AND not AI generated
· Includes
at least five (5) scholarly sources
· Sources must be relevant to your topic and support your research questions or hypotheses
· Uses
APA style consistently throughout (in-text citations and references)
· Demonstrates a clear connection between prior research and your proposed survey topic
Required Submissions
You must submit
two components:
1.
Literature Review Document
· Written narrative of your brief literature review
· APA-formatted reference list
2.
Source Documentation
· PDF copies or clear screenshots of each article used
· The specific sections used to write your literature review
must be highlighted
· Highlights should clearly show the information you referenced or summarized
Important Notes
· This is a
brief review; depth and relevance matter more than length.
· The literature review must be
your own work. Copying or closely paraphrasing sources without proper citation is a violation of academic integrity. Having AI generate the literature review is also unacceptable.
· The highlighted articles are required to demonstrate how you used the literature to inform your project. Without the documentation, the literature review score is zero.
How This Fits Into the Course
This assignment provides the foundation for:
· Writing your survey
· Developing hypotheses
· Conducting appropriate statistical analyses later in the course
A strong literature review will make your
data analysis clearer, more meaningful, and easier to interpret.
