Case Analysis: Strategic Workforce Planning Assignment

Overview

Strategic workforce planning is important for HR because it directly impacts the organization’s ability to achieve goals. Strong workforce planning can help ensure the right people are in place at the right time. It can also help reduce the costs of recruitment, turnover and training. In this case study you will be analyzing a business situation featuring workforce planning.

Instructions

This written case analysis must be at least 1500 words (not including the title, abstract and reference pages), double-spaced, and in current APA format. Please note that the stated word count is a minimum. Therefore, you are encouraged to ensure that you have thoroughly researched and responded to each question/prompt provided below. Use at least 4 scholarly sources (published within the last 5 years), the course textbook, and biblical integration.

Background

Rolling Meadows is a well-established, privately-owned nursing home and assisted living center in a suburban area. They have 120 residents and 150 employees, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and others. The organization has striven to be a community grounded in the Christian values of compassion, dignity and service.

A significant portion of RNs and LPNs at Rolling Meadows are over 55 years old and have announced their intentions to retire in the next 3-5 years. This presents the challenge of manpower loss, skill loss, and the loss of the unique spirit and relational care that define Rolling Meadows. Local population demographics show an approaching surge in senior-seniors (age 85+) who are more likely to need specialized care and younger- seniors (65-80) who prefer active, community-focused living. Compounding this, a modern, high-tech memory-care facility (not affiliated with Rolling Meadows), is opening nearby and will be recruiting nurses. The CEO has asked HR to address the emerging challenges and opportunities.

Based on Rolling Meadow’s situation above, analyze and answer the following:

·
Key Challenges: Identify the most significant workforce planning challenges Rolling Meadows is facing, both short-term and long-term?

·
Supply and Demand for Labor: Analyze the supply and demand for labor.

·
Supply: What factors will impact Rolling Meadow’s internal and external supply of employees in the coming years?

·
Demand: How will the changing demographics and market competition affect Rolling Meadow’s future

·
HR Strategies: What specific HR strategies and initiatives should be considered to address these challenges?  Consider:

·
Recruitment and Retention

·
Training and Development (Upskilling/Reskilling)

·
Succession Planning

·
Compensation and Benefits

·
Organizational Culture and Employee Engagement

·
Potential Risks: Consider potential risks if Rolling Meadows fails to adequately plan its workforce in response to these trends?  Beyond financial and operational risks, what are the spiritual or ethical risks if Rolling Meadows neglects workforce planning?

·
Balancing Christian Concern with Performance Standards: How can effective workforce planning help Rolling Meadows remain competitive in the evolving elder care landscape. How can workforce planning be an act of faith and testament through excellent and compassionate service? Quote and apply at least one verse from the Bible.
