PUBLIC RELATIONS TERMS
While they are often confusing, the terms presented in the “Public Relations Terms” presentation
provide a taxonomy of public relations practice. Each is a practice that serves to meet the goals
and objectives of the organization. It is important to be able to differentiate not only the
definitions, but also the appropriate use of the different forms. Each has a legitimate function in
the professional practice of public relations.
Using the Center for Media and Democracy and other news sources provided in the Weekly
Resources under Weekly News Reviews, identify one example or incident of EACH element
(press agentry, promotion, or sales and marketing).
Using the examples or incident you identified from the news, post two to three paragraphs (at
least 300 words) answering the following questions:
Do you believe the organization’s choice (press agentry, promotion, or sales and marketing)
