I CHOSE TO DO COVID-19 FOR THIS PRESENTATION; THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE BELOW

Speaking Assignment: You will present a 5 to 7 minute speech to inform, using at least one visual aid and 3 source citations. This speech provides your audience with new information, builds upon audience knowledge about a subject, or updates/corrects “old” information with the most current information available. Your speech should incorporate all the principles of effective public speaking. • Include the three main parts of a speech along with their required elements: Introduction (attention getter, credibility statement, topic revealing statement, preview statement), body (main points), and conclusion (recap of main points and closing statement) • Use transitions to assist your audience in following the development of your speech (First, Second, Third, In Conclusion) Full-Sentence Outline: Use Roman Numerals for Intro, Body, and Conclusion; use Capital Letters for the main points, and Arabic numbers (1, 2, etc.) for the subpoints. 1. You will upload the electronic copy of your full-sentence outline and your Reference List page to iCollege by March 10. This needs to be a Word doc or PDF file, uploaded to Assessments/Assignments into the Informative VA folder. 2. You will turn in the hard copy of your Full Sentence Outline/Reference List the day you present. You will hand it to me before you present, so remember ~ you must have notecards. A couple of things to beware of: Reading your speech will negatively affect your grade. If your speech goes substantially (more than 30 seconds) under or over the allotted time, this will impact your grade negatively as well. Research: Three (3) research sources are required for this speech. These are in addition to your own knowledge/experience on the subject. These sources may be publications, electronic media, or interview sources. Your research sources must be cited by name in your speech. ***See Tips for citing sources, below*** They must also be listed in the Reference List at the end of your outline—APA or MLA format, not a copy/paste of URLs. Tips for citing sources: *Verbally cite at least 2 identifiers per source (Author/Date, Title/Date, Website name/Date, etc.) How-to: APA Reference List: Visual Aid: You are to use at least one visual aid in your speech presentation. Visual aids are wonderful companions to the verbal content of a speech, as they increase listeners’ comprehension and retention of information. Your visual aid must be: • Relevant to your topic • Rehearsed, so that it’s smoothly incorporated into your speech
