Social Action Plan Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to identify a broader social issue or underrepresented group and harness the power of sport to enact meaningful change or raise awareness about the issue. You will present your plan in a “TED Talk” style format, focusing on creating an engaging and impactful delivery. This is an individual assignment and should reflect your unique interests, experiences, and connections. Choose a topic you are passionate about: your genuine interest will make your presentation more compelling.
Requirements:
1. Address a Societal Problem:
Choose a significant social issue (e.g., mental health, accessibility, environmental sustainability, etc.) or focus on an underrepresented group (e.g., marginalized communities, individuals with disabilities, specific cultural groups, etc).
Clearly define the problem and its relevance to society.
2. Involve Sport:
Your plan must leverage sport as a tool or platform to address the issue. Examples include community-based sports programs, partnerships with sports organizations, or campaigns led by athletes, coaches, local teams, sport entities like the media, etc.
Explain how sport uniquely connects to the problem and its solution.
3. Include Action:
Develop a detailed action plan that includes specific steps to bring your idea to life. Include:
Potential partnerships: Identify organizations, teams, or individuals that align with your cause and could support your initiative. E.g. local sports clubs, non-profits, schools, or professional athletes. What roles will they play in your action plan?
Funding strategies: Detail how you will secure funding for your initiative. This might include grants, sponsorships, crowdfunding campaigns, or partnerships with businesses. Include a preliminary budget or estimate of costs (what will you need money for and how much does it cost)
Measurable outcomes: Clearly define what success looks like for your project. Examples might include: the number of participants, raised funds, or increased awareness measured through surveys or social media metrics.
4. TED Talk Presentation:
Prepare a 10-minute presentation in the style of a TED Talk.
Use storytelling, visuals, and persuasive speaking to engage the class.
Clearly articulate the problem, your proposed solution, and its anticipated impact.
