For this unit assignment, we want you to focus on the relationship between women and the state. How do different states address women’s rights (including the impacts on women’s bodies), or not, and what are the ways in which women make demands on the state? ***Remember in this context, “state” means national governments.
This unit covers our readings and in-class assignments on 1) Israel/Palestine, 2) Latin America, including Mexico, 3) Haiti, and 4) South Sudan. Your assignment must include at least three out of these four of these areas. The goal is to compare different contexts in order to find patterns that impact women’s rights cross-culturally.
