Overview:
Choose two psychiatrists and PCP’s in your area to fact find how long it will take to get
an appointment if you are reporting symptoms of anxiety and sadness.
Instructions:
• Find two psychiatrists (or psychiatric APRNs) in your area to fact find.
• Call your PCP (if you don’t have one, ask a friend or family member to call
theirs).
• Call each provider and document how long it took for someone to call you back.
o If psychiatrists are accepting new patients, when is their first available
appointment?
o Find out how soon your PCP can get you in for an appointment.
o Do they accept your insurance; if not, what is the out of pocket costs? Do
they require you to be in therapy in order to prescribe medication?
• Given the information you have, which option do you choose and why?
o Weigh the pros and cons of wait time, cost, and scope of practice.
Do not pretend to be a patient; simply ask these questions as if you’re looking for
answers before you decide to see a psychiatrist or a PCP.
Requirements:
• 1-2 pages in length, excluding the Title and Reference page.
• APA format, including an in-text citation for referenced works.
• No scholarly references needed.
