For this assignment, you will identify an area of competency that you intend to incorporate within your future practice as a behavior analyst; however, you are currently not prepared to render services in this area. You will create an 8-10 slide PowerPoint presentation, which will include:

  • Area of practice you have identified as lacking specialized competencies; this can be a subspecialization area within behavior analysis all together, or staying within your area of practice, but the presenting area of need a client brings is outside the scope of competency.

** The area of choice is in home ABA therapy. ( you may compare it to clinical ABA therapy) 

  • Ethical, legal, cultural and social validity considerations related to providing services prior to establishing competence in this area of practice
  • Risk-benefit analysis related to a client seeking services in this particular area of competence and your decision whether or not to begin treatment immediately
  • Considerations and actions you will take to support competency in this area, resulting in your ability to ethically proceed with supporting clients in this area of practice.

Part 1 – PowerPoint Presentation

  • Area of practice you have identified as lacking specialized competencies
    • This should be related to evidence-based practice of behavior analysis
  • Ethical, legal, cultural, and social validity considerations related to providing services prior to establishing competence in this area of practice
    • Identify specific standards set forth in the BACB Ethics Code for Behavior Analysts.
    • Identify any legal, cultural and social validity considerations that should be considered during the process of identifying appropriateness to begin services or not, as applicable.
  • Risk-benefit analysis related to a client seeking services in this particular area of competence and your decision whether or not to begin treatment immediately
    • Explain reasons for and against commencing with service delivery upon receiving the intake referral and identifying the primary area of need
  • Actions you will take to support competency in this area, resulting in your ability to ethically proceed with supporting clients in this area of practice
    • Identify at least three specific courses of action that you will pursue, including how these support development of competency in the designated area of practice.

Power Point Requirements: 

  • 8-10 slides not including title and reference slides 
  • Title Slide: Provide the assignment title, your name, course and section number, instructor name, and date.
  • Content Slides: Answer all the questions, reflecting appropriate personal and professional insights.
    • The assignment must be written in Standard English and demonstrate superior organization, including a highly developed viewpoint and purpose. Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct, accurate, and reflect knowledge ethics in applied behavior analysis.
    • Presentations are visual; therefore, use clear, concise bullet points and avoid crowded slides. You may include the use of graphics and SmartArt to streamline information in a memorable manner. Additionally, images and diagrams are wonderful presentation tools, but be sure to include all required citations. Please review the Creating Effective PowerPoint Presentations resource for tips and suggestions. Submissions must be in .pptx format and no larger than 40 MB.
  • References Slide: Sources listed in current APA format.
  • Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed journal articles
  • Use Arial or Times New Roman 24-point font.
  • Use current APA formatting and citation style.
