Please resolve the case entitled “Client Access to the Psychologist’s Records” on MPL p. 134. Pretend you are the psychologist, the professional treating Isabel
Ruiz. Add the following facts to the case as described on MPL p. 134:
You know from past therapy sessions that Isabel has always been suspicious and anxious about how her parents died. Thinking about “What really happened to my parents?” has caused -and is still causing- Isabel anxiety.
You know that Isabel knows that you talked with her aunt and uncle about her case, and you strongly suspect that Isabel wants to see what’s in her file because she thinks it file may contain information – given to you by her aunt and uncle –about her parents and early family life.
Neither Isabel’s dead aunt nor her uncle ever came to you for professional help. Your only contact with the aunt and uncle was when you called them and asked for background information that might help you to treat Isabel. The transcript of that phone call is the document in Isabel’s file that describes how her parents really died.
You know from past therapy that Isabel’s mental condition is more stable than it has been since she returned to you for help. In fact although Isabel is still at risk of falling into deep depression, that risk is lower now than any time since she first came to you for help.
The rules:
- Resolve the CS by filling out the CRM form. Fill out the entire form, Parts I-VIlI.
- Be careful not to confuse legal evaluation with moral evaluation. The case may be far simpler from a legal point of view than it is from a moral point of view.
