COURSE PROJECT PART 2: CURRICULUM COMPONENTS

Planning Guide
Medical/Health Center

PART 2: CURRICULUM COMPONENTS

Setting: Medical/Health Center

Identifying Curriculum Components

For your Part 2: Curriculum Components Module Assignment, you will select the overarching philosophies, theories, and frameworks that will shape your nursing staff educational program.

When creating these curriculum components, consider the following:

·
What is the long-term goal of your staff nursing education/professional development program?

For example, a hypothetical setting such as Nightingale Regional Medical/Health Center might create a program focused on improving patient safety and quality care. As such, the
overall program goal might be “to decrease the incidence of clinical error to below the national level.”

Draw on your own experience and reputable resources to gather information. Remember the importance of high-quality research to ensure the integrity of your work. Take careful notes to reference when you prepare your Part 2 Course Project Assignment that will be due in Week 5.

1: Developing Educational Program Mission, Vision, Philosophy

Use the following points to help guide your research and thinking:

· Create the mission for your nursing staff education program. Justify your mission statement by explaining how it supports the learning needs of the target staff nurses and how it is congruent with your selected medical/health center’s mission.

· Create the vision for your nursing staff education program. Justify your vision by explaining how it supports the learning needs of the target staff nurses and how it is congruent with your selected medical/health center’s vision.

· Create the philosophy of your nursing staff education program. Justify your philosophy by explaining how it supports the learning needs of the target staff nurses and how it is congruent with your selected medical/health center’s philosophy.

· Create the overall program goal of your nursing staff education program. Justify your program goal by explaining how it supports the learning needs of the target staff nurses and how it is congruent with your selected medical/health center’s mission, vision, and philosophy.

· Explain how the mission, vision, philosophy, and overall program goal help to guide the actions of both nurse educators and nursing staff learners in your setting.

2: Learning Theories & Organizational Frameworks

Conduct research to determine whether your selected medical/health reflects a particular theoretical philosophy and/or organizational framework. Use the following questions as a guide when determining the presence of theories and curriculum components:

·
Does your medical/health center’s website present theoretical statements related to the application of staff education/professional development, healthcare systems, healthcare beliefs, etc.?

·
If so, how might you use those statements as an organizational framework for your proposed nursing staff education program?

·
If not — or in addition to — how might you create an organizational framework that encompasses the theories and concepts that you believe, to apply to your program?

Learning Theory

· Identify the theories and concepts reflected in your selected medical/health canter.

· Identify the major theories that apply to your nursing staff education program, and why.

· Explain how you will integrate learning experiences and concepts associated with these theories throughout the program.

· Explain how these theories aid in the alignment of the program and the selected medical/heath setting.

Organizational Framework

· Identify the type of organizational framework and curriculum development approach that is most applicable to your nursing staff education program.

· Develop an organizational framework/approach that aligns with the following parameters:

· Congruence with the medical/health center’s mission, vision, and philosophy

· Meets the educational and/or developmental needs of your intended target nursing staff
