1. In relation to students, I aim to position myself as an open and approachable teacher who is also a well-prepared and professional presenter. I believe that being approachable encourages students to ask questions and seek help when needed, fostering a supportive learning environment. At the same time, maintaining a high level of preparedness and professionalism ensures that my lessons are structured, engaging, and informative, demonstrating my commitment to their education. Additionally, I strive to integrate technology effectively in the classroom, positioning myself as tech-savvy to enhance the learning experience and make lessons more interactive and relevant. By balancing approachability with professionalism and technological integration, I aim to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that encourages student participation and learning. This is where I have been most successful in my teaching and have had some success. Thank you.
2. Faculty-student positioning can indeed vary with different groups of students depending on their stage of study. For instance, first-year students often benefit from an approachable and supportive teaching style as they navigate the transition to higher education. This stage requires a nurturing environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and seeking help. In contrast, more advanced students, who have gained maturity and academic experience, might appreciate a teacher who sets high standards and challenges them intellectually. This reflects their readiness for deeper engagement and more rigorous academic work.
To position myself effectively in relation to my students, I actively balance approachability with professionalism while integrating technology into my teaching. This involves building rapport by learning students’ names, understanding their backgrounds, and showing genuine interest in their success. Such efforts create a welcoming and supportive environment from the outset. Additionally, I set clear expectations and communicate the standards required for success, helping students understand what is necessary and motivating them to strive for excellence. By combining these approaches, I create a classroom atmosphere that is both supportive and challenging, encouraging student participation and fostering a conducive learning environment. This intentional positioning is crucial in ensuring that I meet the diverse needs of my students at different stages of their academic journeys.
