Writing Prompt

Describe the U.S. social class structure. According to the documentary, what role does socioeconomic status play in health and life expectancy? What can we learn by examining the
excess death rates in Louisville, Kentucky? What role does our ability to control our own destiny play? How is this linked to our biology? Be sure to include specific details about the research conducted by both Dr. Shively and Dr. Cohen. The film included one study’s prediction that today’s generation of young Americans might be the first in a century to live shorter lives than their parents. What solutions did the documentary provide to avoid such a fate?

Guidelines

Your post must be at minimum 250 words.
Include the word count at the end of your post. Posts with less than 250 words will be severely penalized. 250 words is a minimum requirement. Longer posts of around 500 words tend to score higher as more thought and analysis goes into them.

This is an interactive assignment. It is important to interact with your classmates this semester as they will provide diverse perspectives on the topics at hand, which will expand your knowledge of the concept/s immensely.
Reply to at least one of your classmates. A substantive reply is at minimum 150 words (but may go longer). It contributes to the discussion in a meaningful way. It makes a thoughtful, constructive comment on the post and asks questions that further the discussion. When replying, explain why you agree or disagree; add some examples to support your position. Feel free to relate personal, academic, or work experiences that may add to the discussion. Your post should ask a question. (i.e. ask to clarify something, or ask a “what if…” question). Finally, remember netiquette – be polite.

Proofread what you post. You may want to use a word processor to draft what you intend to say, check your spelling and grammar, and then paste your text into the discussion board. Avoid using text messaging shortcuts.
