Analysis Paper #1

In my role within Kuyper College, my focus lies squarely on the financial heartbeat of our operations, a realm that stands distinctly apart from the daily complexity of human resources. As a key member of the team working under the Chief Financial Officer, my responsibilities are centered on diligent financial management and reporting. Each day begins with a careful review and entry of journal transactions or daily deposits, where accuracy and attention to detail are most important. I am tasked with ensuring that every entry aligns seamlessly with our financial protocols and regulatory requirements. This responsibility extends to reconciling accounts, analyzing discrepancies, and maintaining the integrity of our financial records, a task that requires a good eye for detail and a good understanding of financial principles. Another critical part of my role involves the accurate entry of credit card statements. I navigate through complex financial data, carefully recording each transaction and ensuring our financial records are up-to-date and accurate. This task demands precision and a systematic approach, as even the smallest error can have significant implications for our financial reporting and decision-making processes for the final year and could affect government funding.

Working under the guidance of our Chief Financial Officer, I am part of a team dedicated to financial stewardship and strategic planning. Our collaboration is rooted in a shared commitment to fiscal responsibility and transparency, as we work hard to uphold our organization’s financial health and integrity. I don’t get the daily interaction of working with recruiting or handling administrative tasks related to employee records, payroll processing, and maintaining HR databases. I also don’t manage legal requirements related to employment documentation and record-keeping. While I deeply appreciate the essential role of human resources in creating a positive work environment and supporting our talented team members, my focus remains steadfastly fixed on the numbers, spreadsheets, and financial strategies that underpin our organization’s success. My days are filled with the challenges and rewards of financial management, where my contributions are measured not in interpersonal dynamics but in the clarity and accuracy of our financial reporting.

I think we as an organization could improve our financial reporting of the credit card statements by using new technology and software systems that report your finances automatically when you use the card. I think we need to create a policy that makes the employees enter their credit card reconciliation easier and more efficiently to where it automatically codes what they spent that day. I also think we need to create a better way to file records and have specific instructions on the naming conventions where they get filed and why they are filed the way they are to give a better understanding of the standard we are trying to uphold in the office but as well as for Kuyper as a whole. Communication is a big factor I would like to improve in the business office because it’s hard to always ask someone something they have already done and submitted. Communicating in a proper way that everyone is heard and shown equal respect helps the work environment and an ease for asking questions from one another without feeling a status of position. Although I think there are many strategic ways to improve there are a lot of good things that present as an organization. For example, the community being together and working together when have new students or events. As well as everyone being kind and polite to each other and willing to be open to others. I also like how we as an organization empower students to have a role in how the school runs and presents.

After hearing all the intern’s job descriptions and how their organizations run I think Kuyper is in a good position, but think Kuyper could be more open to its community like New City Neighbors. I think they could get together with all the colleges on the beltline and have an event to inform about all the schools as well as push the mission of the school with Christ. I also think Kuyper could take more time with each student to learn more about them and how to push each student to their fullest potential. I think Kuyper could focus on these things to make them better and bring more students and people awareness about them and push the mission of Christ and serving God. Overall Kuyper has pros and cons to its organization that can always be improved.
