8-1 Discussion: Promoting Your Exhibit (50 points)

Imagine that you’re going to promote your exhibit on social media to attract visitors. Since part of your proposal focused on the visitor experience and contemporary relevance for a diverse audience, you have already considered why an audience would be interested. For this discussion, you will write a social media post promoting the exhibit and connecting your exhibit to an event or situation that is happening today. Your post must be no more than 280 characters (including spaces) and include one image. Then, you will address the discussion prompts in your responses to your peers.

Remember to remain thoughtful and respectful toward your peers and instructor in your initial and response discussion posts.

Create one initial post and respond to posts by at least two peers.

For your initial post, address the following:

  1. Create a draft for a social media post promoting your exhibit (280 characters including spaces, one image.) The post should:
    • Briefly describe the historical narrative the exhibit tells about the historical event or subject.
    • Highlight a specific artifact that might draw in visitors.
    • Refer to a current event that relates to the event featured in the exhibit.
  2. Ask your peers for feedback on a specific aspect of your draft of the social media post.

For your response posts, address the following, based on the details provided in the peer’s social media post:

  1. What recommendations do you have about your classmate’s social media post?
  2. Explain whether you would attend the event, and why or why not.
  3. Tell why you would or would not share the post across your own social media.

Remember, your contributions to the discussion play an important part in building the classroom learning community. This assignment is graded on the quality of your initial post and at least two response posts to your classmates. If you refer to any resources, be sure to include an attribution (or citation) to the resource.

Although Brightspace allows the addition of video notes in discussion posts, you may not use the Video Note tool to complete this assignment.
