“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest,” Flawlessly said the great Nelson Mandela. Where else should we as a society begin, better our world than to start within?

From Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands; my name is Breyanna Williams, a20 YEAR OLD , Salutatorian, Most Outstanding Business Student, Recipient of the Governor’s Award of the HJ Robinson High School Class of 2020, Upcoming Grandaunt of The Turks and Caicos Islands Community College and future Speech Pathologist.

After placing second at the Eliza Simons Primary School for GSAT; I maintain my position on the honor roll for the full length of my high school tenure. Being hand-picked for the prefect body and the secretary for the tourism club and an active member of the 4H club made my time at HJ very eventful. During my years in high school, I began my own business by the name of BAE (Breyanna Accessories Empire) selling jewelry and phone accessories. I opened this business, to exercise my entrepreneurial skills and gain the knowledge and insight to match theoretical methods with practical strategies, as well as to generate revenue. Upon graduating High School I pursued an associate’s degree in Business Studies at the TCICC, where I maintained and GPA of 3.4. I became more knowledgeable in entrepreneurship and barked on the adventure of my second Business Natural Roots where I maintain and style dreadlocks.

Although I have a passion for Business, I have a greater passion for helping others. I was tasked to complete a project for one of my college courses and stumbled upon an ad in the newspaper where a group of mothers with special needs kids were pleading for assistance to help their young ones develop. This made my heart full and I was eager to find out more about ways I can be a positive contribution to this cause.

Choosing a major can be difficult, especially if you plan to continue your education after completing your undergraduate degree. For me, Speech-Language Pathology was an obvious choice, especially given my desire to help change someone’s life and make a significant impact that can affect more than just one person. In every aspect of daily life, I consider verbal communication to be one of the most fundamental forms of expression and human interaction, and I believe that being unable to communicate effectively imposes emotional, spiritual, and intellectual deprivation. I envision a career as a speech-language pathologist, restoring and improving children’s communication skills and abilities while gaining unparalleled professional rewards and personal fulfillment. My enthusiasm for working with children does not end with improving their communication, confidence, and happiness; it also includes remaining a lifelong learner and active contributor to my chosen discipline.

I request to pursue a career in Speech Pathology with aim of closing the gap that exists in special education in the Turks & Caicos Islands. Though I may be young, my work ethic is exceptional, therefore I will be determined to take full advantage of this new course in my life.
