Scenario

In today’s digital age, the landscape of deviance is evolving rapidly alongside the proliferation of digital technologies and online platforms. Samantha, a social media enthusiast, regularly posts on TikTok, crafting an identity shaped by her followers’ interests and expectations, which sometimes diverges from her offline persona. Similarly, her brother Nate engages in digital slang and abbreviations in text messages, creating a digital communication style distinct from his parents, Ross and Kristina, who are adapting to trends by incorporating emojis into their emails and texts. Additionally, Samantha’s friend Alex adopts digital anonymity to criticize celebrities on Instagram, an action he wouldn’t undertake in offline interactions.

Instructions

Your task is to create an infographic that delves into various forms of deviance prevalent in today’s society, particularly within the digital realm. Focus on the following categories of deviance:

· Cyber Deviance: Explore phenomena such as cyberbullying, online harassment, hacking, online fraud, and other forms of digital misconduct. Provide data and statistics to support your analysis.

· Social Media and Deviance: Examine how social media platforms have become vehicles for impression management, deviating from traditional forms of communication and behavior. Highlight the gaps created by this shift.

· Digital Activism and Hacktivism: Analyze individuals and groups engaging in online activities to promote political or social causes. Provide historical context and relevant facts to enrich your analysis.

· Online Communities and Subcultures: Identify subcultures within online communities that embrace unconventional norms and values, challenging mainstream societal expectations.

· Digital Surveillance and Control: Explore issues surrounding privacy, data breaches, and digital surveillance practices. Offer detailed statistics and facts to illustrate the extent of these issues.

Important: Before starting, be sure to review this assignment’s rubric as it will help you narrow the scope of your work.
