Skills Demonstration Video 1 – First Section

(Please get me the content and I’ll make the video based on that)

Video 1: First Session Instructions

In your first video, you will speak directly to the camera as if you are conducting a telehealth therapy session. Your goal in this video is to demonstrate your ability to explain the CBT approach in a concise, accurate and understandable manner. You can assume that you have already built some rapport with the client, introduced your credentials, reviewed confidentiality, etc. In this part of the “session” you will introduce the concept of CBT as if your “client” has never heard of this modality. Please address the following in 3-5 minutes:

· The basic premise of CBT. How is CBT supposed to help the client? (Hint: think about the cognitive triad!)

· How does it work? Give 1-2 brief examples of exercises you might do with the client.

· Session logistics- What should the client expect in terms of session structure, length, and duration?

· What is the client role and therapist role? What will they be responsible for, and what can they expect from you? (e.g., completing homework, etc.). Be sure to explain the spirit of collaborative empiricism, but you do not have to use those exact words.

You may record the video using any recording software you’d like. One option for recording is using Canvas Studio. If using Studio, it is recommended you download the “screen capture” Studio software. This software will give you the option to record a webcam only and is more reliable than the browser Studio software (see
How do I record a Canvas Studio screen capture videoLinks to an external site.).

PART 2

Reflection for Video 1 (A sample reflection is provided as well)

Reflection Instructions

As part of your Skills Demonstration Video 1- First Session, you will submit a reflection.

The reflection should be 1-3 pages in length and follow APA format with appropriate grammar and proofreading. Please address the following reflection questions for each video:

1. Experience Preparing and Creating the Video

· Briefly reflect on what it was like to create the video. For example, how did you feel? How did you prepare your talking points?

2. Overall Observations-

· Re-watch your video. Did you notice anything about yourself or your approach that you weren’t aware of before? For example, perhaps you noticed use of “filler words” such as “like” or “um”, or fidgeting? Consider eye contact, facial expression, tone of voice, how fast you talked, etc.

3. Strengths-

· What strengths do you think you demonstrated in this video? What did you do effectively?

4. Opportunities for Growth & Lessons Learned-

· Based on your observations, what skills would you like to further refine in order to do this effectively with actual clients? What practical steps can you take to improve in the future? Anything else you learned?
