Follow these guidelines when completing each component of the assignment. Contact your course faculty if you have questions.

General instructions

  1. Download the NR581NP Scope of Practice templateLinks to an external site.. Use of the template is required. A 10% deduction will be applied if the template is not used. See the rubric.
  2. Submit the assignment as a .doc or .docx file to the Week 2 Dropbox. PDF files are not allowed.
  3. Complete the NR581NP Scope of Practice Assignment template.
  4. Follow current APA grammar, spelling, word usage, and punctuation rules consistent with formal, scholarly writing.
  5. Use the board of nursing or the Nurse Practice ActLinks to an external site. for the state where you intend to practice. Use these resources to substantiate the information presented.
  6. Correctly cite and reference information from scholarly sources.
  7. Abide by Chamberlain University’s academic integrity policy.

Include the following sections (detailed criteria listed below and in the grading rubric):

Intended State of Practice

  1. Identify the state in which you intend to practice and the licensure requirements for that state.
  2. Identify the NP scope of practice in the state in which you intend to practice.

Educational and Certification Requirements

  1. Describe the educational requirements for NP licensure in the state in which you intend to practice.
  2. Describe the certification requirements for NP licensure in the state in which you intend to practice.

Practice Environment

  1. Identify the practice environment (full, reduced, or restricted NP practice) in the state in which you intend to practice.
  2. If the state has reduced or restricted NP practice, specify what supervision or collaborative practice agreements are required. If your state is full practice, write N/A for this question.
    1. Students who intend to practice in California should also include the use of written standard procedures that guide NP practice in the state and physician supervision ratios.

Prescribing Regulations

  1. Discuss NP prescriptive authority in the state in which you intend to practice.
  2. Explain regulations related to prescribing controlled substances.

Professional Practice

  1. Describe the licensure, certification, and continuing education requirements for ongoing NP practice in the state in which you intend to practice.
