What are two interventions as advanced nurse practitioner could implement to reduce injuries/ violence?
- To identify risk and protective factors, there are lots of reasons why people experience and/or perpetuate injury and act of violence. The nurse practitioner can reduce injuries/ violence by understanding the risk and preventive factors associated with it. For violence, a nurse practitioner is ideally situated to identify victims that are prone to violence and establish strategies to prevent it. Establishing great rapport, using keen observation and questioning, a nurse practitioner can help individual escape threatening situations through the reporting of situations and acquisition of resources to reestablish safety (Cipriano et al., 2021). In the case of injury prevention, the nurse practitioner is situated to educate the population on ways to protect themselves and their environment to prevent injury.
- Another intervention is connecting with people in distress through therapeutic relationship strategy and focusing on meeting each individual’s unmet need (Cipriano et al., 2021). This may prevent unnecessary frustration and anger that often lead to injury/violence
What role does the community play in preventing violence?
Forming community organizations which can engage community members and people who have experienced violence in prevention planning and implementation can help prevent violence. They can also support street outreach programs which can provide urgently needed support to help reduce immediate risk of violence including escalating or retaliating violence (Center for Disease Control,2024). Communities can also help by coordinating resources and services among community agencies to reach out to the community members.
Additionally, by providing access to mental health and substance use devices can help prevent violence in the community. This can be achieved through seeking support from the local, state and national levels.
