Paper II: Literary Analysis

Choose either “The Story of an Hour” or “The Yellow Wallpaper”.

Next, you will identify the main character in the story.

In this literary analysis, your focus is on addressing how the author uses characterization with your selected character to aid the reader in understanding??? (You must explore why the author used the main character to assist the reader in understanding a point that you have identified). The point that you identify will serve as your thesis statement. The thesis statement is the last sentence in your introduction.

For instance, In Alice Walker’s “Everyday Use,” Dee represents many societal proclaimed intellectuals who are ill-learned to some of the most important lessons of life that come at no cost.

In your short 4 full-page paper, double-spaced, 12-point font, Times New Roman paper, you must explore examples of characterization that support your thesis statement. Each body paragraph must contain support from the story. You are required to use a direct quote or paraphrase. Long quotes are not permitted. You must use transitions that unify your paragraphs. If you do not know what transitions are, look them up. Your paper must be composed in the third person and present tense. Avoid using the following pronouns: I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, you, your). If you find yourself retelling the story, this means you are not analyzing. The goal is to analyze the body of work. Your 5th page will be your Works Cited page. You will automatically fail this assignment if you submit a paper with in-text citations and no Works Cited or vice versa. You must cite the information you use. Your paper must adhere to MLA format. Your work must be your own and not AI-generated.

Now, before you even attempt this assignment, review MLA format, in-text citations, direct quotes, paraphrases, and the Works Cited page.

Take your time with this second Literary Analysis. Remember, your papers weigh much more than discussion threads and other assignments.
