Processes, Facilities, and Work Systems
A business process is a logical set of activities or operations an organization undertakes for some
purpose. These processes transform input resources, such as materials, people, and information, into
outputs, which can be goods or services. Business processes are important to an organization’s
operations because they improve efficiency, productivity, and quality.
Benefits of Business Processes
Cost Reduction: Business processes achieve cost suppression through efficiency and reduced duplicities
within an organization. This is imperative for purposes of sustaining competition and with regards to the
question of profitability, indispensable.
Consistency and Quality: Structured procedures facilitate output standards, hence increasing customer
quality and satisfaction. This leads to trust and client retention, which can be highly beneficial in
applications of Banner Systems in repeat business or high turnover production businesses (Stevenson,
2021).
Improved Productivity: Flows enhance efficiency in throughput so that activities are done in the right
sequence and way, thus increasing efficiency and minimizing waste.
Customer Satisfaction: Efficient processes help enhance customer expectations in that the delivery of
services or products as agreed on is done on time (Rajput & Agarwal, 2020).
Disadvantages of Business Processes
Rigidity: Conversely, overly standardized processes may reduce flexibility in dealing with changes in the
market demands or changes in technology.
High Setup Costs: The organizational processes that entail integrating or adopting new and complicated
strategies may be expensive due to the requirement of investments in technologies or workforce
education (Rajput & Agarwal, 2020).
Potential for Employee Dissatisfaction: When one type of work cycle turns out repetitive or mundane, the
employees feel demotivated and may even switch jobs frequently (Stevenson, 2021).
Although business processes are necessary for effectiveness, significant attention should be paid to
optimizing the process to meet the need for standardization, flexibility, and employee impact.
A Workflow Process in Business
As the owner of a gourmet barbecue sauce, I would have a system in which the production of new sauce
flavors would follow to make the company more organized and efficient. The process for this workflow
would include the following steps:
Concept Development: It starts with creating ideas for new flavors. This is due to changes in market
needs, customers’ preferences, and the opportunity to use quality and natural resources.
Recipe Formulation: The number of professional chefs and those who develop food science is small, and
they prepare sample batches. They work on different complements of ingredients, mixing them in a
manner that gets the best results in terms of taste.
Product Testing: The sauce is first tested in-house, then focus groups are employed to do the same.
Information is gathered in case of need for adjustment of the recipe later on.
Ingredient Sourcing: Once the recipe has been developed, the procurement department selects highquality ingredients from select vendors to fulfill the taste and quality requirements.

Batch Production: The manufacturing team prepares the sauce in bulk to achieve consistent quality due
to strict adherence to quality control measures.
Packaging and Labeling: The sauce is then placed in modified packaging materials that are
environmentally friendly to include branding and information on nutritional values for compliance with
market requirements.
Distribution: The final product is sold through partners using selling locations and restaurants and is sold
probably online on the company’s website.
This seven-step process involves multiple teams and guarantees the production of a superior product that
can meet the company’s quality standards and customer expectations.
Process Details
Number of Steps: This process is carried out in seven steps.
Number of People: Generally, there are approximately four major teams: Concept generation (Marketing
and R&D), Product evaluation (R&D and focus groups), Purchasing (Ingredients), and Production
(Manufacturing and distribution departments). It is suggested that each team would consist of several
people, and the overall number of participants would be up to 20–30 people.
A business needs to comprehend its business processes and how it needs to improve them; being a
business owner, having a well-established process assists when expanding a business.
