World Christianity Region Note

Jacobsen’s
The World’s Christians provides a broad nomothetic (with a handful of idiographic primary text excerpts and anecdotes) overview of world Christianity today. It tells an immense story behind today’s nearly 2.5 billion Christians. Part III of the book on contemporary regions of world Christianity includes overviews of each of these.

Select one of the regions which interests you that you would like to learn something more about. After doing so, take the following three steps in producing a three-page (double-spaced) paper on the region you select: 1) explain two to three things about that region which you found interesting, as you would to an audience at a church, workplace, or another outlet; 2) briefly summarize the state of Christianity in that region in general, based on the chapter in Jacobsen (you’re welcome to use additional quality scholarly sources but this is not needed at all for this brief section either); and 3) find one additional (either quality scholarly or legitimate news or primary text) source of information on something (anything of significance is fine) from a topic (can be specific or broad) that you’d like to investigate and add to your understanding here.

Three headings for three one-page sections might work well here. So, to recap, first explain two or three interesting things about the region from the material in the chapter in Jacobsen. Then backup and give a broad explanation about the current state of Christianity in the region today. Finally, get some new information from a legitimate source (just one, and it does not have to be long) and explain that additional information on the third page.

This is practice for sharing your learning on world Christianity with others in church, educational, professional, and other potential settings, while also working on how to find additional information on a topic in world Christianity.

Please cite your sources, including Jacobsen, with Chicago Style/Turabian footnotes. No reference list or bibliography is necessary. Do not overcite. You can avoid overciting Jacobsen by simply citing blocks of material at the end of paragraphs (e.g., Jacobsen,
The World’s Christians, 35-43), though be sure to cite page numbers for any direct quotes.
