AMH 2010: Written Assignment #2 Rubric and Citation Information

Description of the assignment (taken directly from the course syllabus):

  • Written Assignment #2 (100 points): The second written assignment will be due on Saturday, March 14 at 11:59pm via the Canvas Turnitin Dropbox. The completed submission must be a minimum of 750 words, Times New Roman, 12 point font (approximately 3 pages in length, not including a title page or a Works Cited Page). The topic of Written Assignment #2 will be on Women’s Rights in Antebellum America. You will be given four primary sources and two secondary sources to use for the completion of this paper. For Written Assignment #2, you may use the citation style of your choice (MLA, APA, or Chicago). Sources, rubric, and citation guidelines will be posted to Canvas in the Week 10 Module as well as the Course Documents Module.

Written Response Rubric

Note: For areas of the rubric that look at multiple issues, just having one of those issues could lead to a loss of points. Review the rubric before you begin your assignment. Before submitting your assignment, check your work against the rubric.

Participants fully answer the question in at least 750 words.

The student actively engages with 3 primary sources. The sources are directly referenced in the response. The source is cited using the students’ citation style of choice (MLA or Chicago).

10 points

The student actively engages with 2 secondary sources. The sources are directly referenced in the response. The source is cited using the students’ citation style of choice (MLA or Chicago).

10 points

The student uses the same citation style (MLA or Chicago) throughout their written assignment. 

All citations are correct.

20 points

The written response is focused and purposeful, and it reflects insight into the writing assignment. 

The detailed response reflects that the participant has read the readings and has a strong understanding of the topic.

5 points

The written assignment includes a Works Cited Page.

The Works Cited Page is on the last page of the submission.

All of the assigned sources are cited.

The sources are cited using the same citation style as the rest of the paper.

The development of the support is comprehensive

(i.e., complete, inclusive, thorough), specific, relevant,

and concrete. 

The participant successfully references both the primary source and the independent source in a meaningful way.

No errors occur in mechanics, usage,

punctuation, and spelling.

The completed Written Assignment is typed in Times New Roman 12 point font.

The completed Written Assignment is submitted to the Turnitin Dropbox as a Word Document.

The title page of the complete Written Assignment includes the following:

  • Word Count (note: the word count does not include anything on the cover page or the Works Cited Page.
