In this assignment, you will conduct an analysis of how your local school district is implementing Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 which prohibits discrimination “on the basis of sex” in education programs that receive federal funds. You will analyze how Title IX is implemented in a school setting and use that analysis to provide recommendations for improvements to its application within your school or district. The topic of Title IX broadly covers such varied issues as gender equity in athletic programs, staff on student sexual harassment/abuse, student on student sexual harassment, LGBTQ+ rights, transgender student/employee access to facilities, the use of gender pronouns, etc. You are free to narrow your focus to any of these issues under the larger Title IX umbrella. As part of your analysis, you will reflectively evaluate the extent to which the law or policy is applied consistently, fairly, equitably, and ethically within a school or school district.
DIRECTIONS:
1.
Research, Analysis, and Evaluation
Identify your focus of how Title IX, as implemented in your local school district, is intended to promote student and/or adult success and well-being. Research and analyze how your school district’s Title IX policy or procedure is implemented in your school setting:
1. What is its intention or purpose?
2. Who implements it?
3. Where is it implemented?
4. When is it implemented?
5. How is it implemented?
Research and evaluate the extent to which the Title IX policy or procedure is applied consistently, fairly, equitably, and ethically within your school or school district. Consider any implications of the law / policy for diverse student and/or adult populations.
Your research should include an interview with a school or district leader regarding the Title IX policy or procedure’s implementation and application. Support your conclusions with data.
2.
Synthesis and Recommendations
Synthesize your research, analysis, and evaluation into a report (approximately 5 pages) that concludes with recommendations for improvements to the application of the law / policy within your school or district.
