Advocating for the school counseling program is a major role of school counselors in the school setting. In order to be such an advocate, you will need to be familiar with best practices in school counseling.
Create an 8-10-slide (not including a title slide and reference slide) PowerPoint presentation for school stakeholders educating them on the ASCA National Model’s four components: Define, Manage, Deliver, and Assess.
Address the following in your presentation:
- Discuss the ways in which the ASCA School Counseling National Model is important to the field of school counseling.
- Describe the school counselor’s role in promoting academic success, career planning, and social/emotional development.
- Describe the “Define” component of the ASCA National Model including the development and significance of school counseling program mission statements and objectives.
- Describe the “Manage” component of the ASCA National Model including advocacy processes needed to address institutional and social barriers that impede access, equity, and success for clients.
- Describe the “Deliver” component of the ASCA National Model including strategies for identifying and eliminating barriers, prejudices, and processes of intentional and unintentional oppression and discrimination.
