PSY-260: Topic 2 APA Tips
· Include a title page on all APA formatted assignments, with all required information. You are encouraged to use the templates available in the Student Success Center.
· Ensure that you use Times New Roman, 12, black font in all areas.
· The blue underlined format for URLS and DOIs are allowed.
· Do not bold any areas of your work, except headings (including titles and reference headings).
· Do not use CAPSLOCK anywhere.
· Exceptions include publishers who have their names in all caps.
· Do not underline areas, such as the title.
· URLS and DOIs however, may be underlined and in blue, or they may be black and not underlined.
· Center all title page information and include the date on your title page.
· List references alphabetically, rather than by type.
· Formatting for articles should follow the format provided in the GCU APA Style Guide, found in the Student Success Center, and on the GCU Library’s Citing Sources guide.
· APA requires the use of the hanging indent setting specifically, you should not use manual settings.
· Fill all lines with content. You will want to break up your links or information in such a manner that it is the full first line, full second line at ½ inch indentation, etc.
· Due to Word’s line break rules with URLs this may not happen—and that is allowed in APA.
· Double-space all content, removing any extra spaces between references.
· Format journal titles in title case, capitalizing all major words and lowercasing, articles, conjunctions, and prepositions with three or fewer letters.
· Journal titles are capitalized according to the published capitalization, usually every word over 4 letters. Some are in all caps, such as SAGE Open Nursing
· If a reference has areas coming up in CAPSLOCK, adjust it manually.
· Italicize journal titles.
· If a DOI is listed you will not need to include the permalink.
· Permalinks (links to library databases) are not allowed in APA 7
· Remove any blank pages after content ends, or in between pages.
