Week 1 – Assignment: Examine Healthcare Human Resources Topics
This week, you gained the necessary foundational knowledge to make decisions as a healthcare leader about HR. Consider the following:
1. What are the organizational advantages and challenges of integrating strategic management and HR management specific to healthcare?
2. What are the steps involved in integrating overall strategic management and managing a human resources function?
3. What are the major types of healthcare professions (excluding dentists, psychologists, chiropractors, etc.) and their roles, training, licensure requirements and the types of organizations in which they practice? For example, LPNs can practice in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, etc.
4. Assume you are an HR manager in a large hospital setting facing a nursing shortage. What steps should you take to address the shortfall?
5. How will the aging of the American population affect both the supply of healthcare professionals as well as the demand for healthcare services?
Incorporate these responses into a memorandum addressed to the CEO of the healthcare facility, as well as identify three challenges facing healthcare HR and a suggested HR solution for each challenge.
