Answer the questions below using the document attached: There is no specific page limit to the assignment, but the answers MUST be single-spaced WITHIN each answer, with a double space BETWEEN each answer. MUST be typed, with 1” margins throughout the document. 12-point, Times New Roman Font.

Questions (Answer Questions in full)

1. What was the general topic of this research (be specific)?

2. Would this research be considered exploratory, descriptive, or explanatory? What makes

this research one of these types?

a. Based on your answer to #2, what is the guiding hypothesis of this research, or is

there one? Please offer evidence to support your answer.

3. What were the primary results of this study? In particular, how do race, gender, and

political ideology impact attitudes toward the causation of crime? What significant

effects were found, and where were they not found?

4. Using evidence uncovered by the authors, make a case for which of the following

variables has the greatest impact on theoretical attributions to the causes of crime: race,

gender, and political orientation. In particular, based on the evidence presented, the

authors found which of these variables to be most important, and what does this mean?

Are these results in line with your preconceived notions regarding the correlates of

theoretical attributions regarding the causes of crime?

5. As was hopefully gleaned not only in the researchers’ independent work, but also from

previous studies specified in the literature review – explain the importance of theory. In

particular, how do our causal attributions (theoretical perspectives) inform our decisions

from a policy perspective. Explain the interplay or linkages between theory and research

– i.e., how is theory foundational to any form of scientific research, including in our

field?

6. As a follow up to question #5, let’s be honest here, why in the hell should we be

concerned about the causal theoretical attributions of laypeople, or citizens, when it

comes to criminal behavior? (Note: Keep in mind that there is a reason why we should

care.) Why not just lean on us expert criminologists?

7. How do causal or theoretical attributions impact attitudes on real-world CJ policy issues,

like criminal sanctioning?

8. Based on your reading of the article, how might future research in this area improve upon

this study? What can be accomplished by future research that was not accomplished in

this study?
