Extra Credit Unit 1: What Makes a Health Diet (5 points)
The term, “diet” and “healthy” are very debatable as every person have different definitions or views of what those mean; we all live and eat differently.
A Southeast Asian person ordering street food consisting of steamed rice, boiled vegetables, and fried pork belly
A Ghanian eating a homemade dinner of fufu (cassava), curried hardboiled eggs and stewed collard greens
A diner at a vegan restaurant who ordered buffalo cauliflower “wings” as an appetizer and a chickpea salad sandwich
A person living with type-2 diabetes who is following a strict pattern of 3 carb choices each meal while emphasizing high-fiber and high-protein
Write at minimum 2 paragraphs about what your definition or perspective of what a healthy diet is. Feel free to include examples such as how family and peers influence eating habits, the environment people grew up in, health risks, health and wellness goals, etc. There is no right-or-wrong answer and we are not making this as a debate. We are using this as a learning experience to enhance our understanding of how people think, meet where the individual is at, and how we can guide them towards achieving their health goals.
