It’s often said that a significant percentage of jobs are never publicly advertised – this is referred to as the “hidden job market.”

1. Explain the hidden job market and why a significant portion of jobs are filled without being publicly advertised. (Provide credible sources)

2. Propose  concrete strategies for  tapping into this hidden market, beyond simply applying online.

I. Deconstructing  the Job Description

A. Core responsibilities & duties 

· List only critical or key responsibilities mentioned

·  Identify Hard Skills

·  Identify Soft Skills

·  Experience Level (how many years of experience needed)

·   Communicate the Needs: what needs or problem the company is trying to solve with this job application? 

II. Self Assessment (Your Solution Offering 

A.  Matching Your Skills & Experience to the Job Description

     Go through each core responsibility and required skill. For each, describe 
how your past experience or skills directly address it. Provide concrete examples and quantifiable achievements.

Example: If a responsibility is “Manage customer relationships,” your match could be: “In my previous role at ABC Corp, I successfully managed a portfolio of 50+ key client accounts, achieving a 95% client retention rate by proactively addressing their needs and resolving issues.”

B. Addressing the Nice-to-Haves/Areas for Development

     If you don’t have direct experience in a “nice-to-have,” how can you demonstrate transferrable skills or a willingness to learn? (e.g., “While I haven’t directly used X software, my proficiency in Y and Z, combined with my quick learning ability, makes me confident I can rapidly master X.”)

C. Your Unique Vale Proposition:

· Beyond meeting the basic requirements, what unique strengths, perspectives, or experiences do you bring that would be particularly valuable to 
this specific company and role?

· How do your personal values align with the company’s culture?

III. Synthesizing the Needs and Your Solution

·       Identify 3-5 most critical employer needs/problems. (Based on research, describe the core challenges or objectives this hire is intended to              address) 

·
      Example Need: “The company needs to improve data-driven decision-making across departments.”

·       Formulate Your Corresponding Solutions: For each identified need clearly state how your skills and experience provide a solution.
