Assessment 2 – Community Resources
For this assessment, you will research a selected local, national, or global nonprofit organization
or government agency to determine how it contributes to public health and safety
improvements, promotes equal opportunity, and improves the quality of life within the
community and submit your findings in a 3–5 page report.
Before you complete the detailed instructions in the courseroom, first review the local, national,
and global nonprofit organizations and government agencies in the list below and select one to
be the focus of your assessment.
• Doctors without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres): Doctors Without Borders
provides medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion
from healthcare, operating in over 70 countries to deliver emergency medical aid
• Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA): An agency of the United States
Department of Homeland Security, its primary purpose is to coordinate the response to
disasters that occur within the U.S. and that overwhelm local and state resources.
• National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI): NAMI provides advocacy, education,
support, and public awareness to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by
mental illness.
• National Center for Transgender Equality: Advocates to change policies and society
to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people.
• National Resource Center on LGBTQ+ Aging: Provides training, technical assistance,
and educational resources to aging providers, LGBTQ+ organizations, and LGBTQ+
older adults.
