Career Development Theories Project

This assignment aims to familiarize students with theories and models of career
development, counseling, and career decision-making. Students should be able to
recognize approaches for conceptualizing the interrelationships among and between
work, mental well-being, relationships, and other life roles and factors. Students should
be aware of the ethnically and culturally relevant strategies for addressing career
development among special populations.

Students will research career theory and create a PowerPoint presentation (or Prezi,
Canva, etc.). Students are expected to briefly cover content from the text related to the
theory and integrate information from two additional scholarly sources. Each
presentation should contain 1 slide to address each of the following:

• The chosen theory (title slide)
• What theorist(s) is/are associated with the theory?
• When did the theory originate?
• What are the key constructs of the theory?
• How applicable is the theory to our diverse society today? Do all components of

your theory apply to all segments of our society (age, gender, ethnicity, S.E.S,
religion, sexual orientation, varying abilities, etc.)

• Is there criticism of this theory? If so, briefly summarize
• To what degree does research literature support the theory?
• What do you personally think of the theory? How relevant is it to your own life?

(Give an example of how it may, or may not, apply to your own life)
